Member Spotlight: Magnetic Creative

This month's Member Spotlight, from our newest location in Downtown LA, is quite attractive - wouldn't you agree? (Okay, bad magnet joke. Sorry, we couldn't help ourselves.) Magnetic Creative is a branding and engagement agency seeking to uncover the truth in brands and amplify it for the world. We sat down with CCO Dave Korinek for the full scoop!

Magnetic Creative believes great brands infiltrate culture. They live and breathe. They transcend a name and logo and become part of our lives. Q. In one sentence, describe who your company is and what you do.

Our company is Magnetic Creative. We are a branding + engagement agency.

Q. What is the problem you're solving?

We’re solving the great divide between brands and consumers. We Light fires. Tell stories. Live adventurously. See what burns brightest, and sprint towards it. By helping to humanize brands, we can connect more authentically to their consumers.

Q. What brought your company to Los Angeles, and what do you like about the startup ecosystem here? We were looking to expand into the LA market and broaden our customer base. And we already had a team in LA that was commuting to our main office in Temecula which didn’t make sense everyday. But we needed a space for the team to collaborate daily and Cross Campus was a perfect fit.

Q. How has being a part of the Cross Campus community helped you or your business grow?

It’s been great being a part of the Cross Campus community. There’s a massive amount of energy here, relationships to be made, ideas to be shared, business opportunities to be explored. We’re inspired by those around us and we hope we do the same for those we’ve had a chance to meet.

Q. What has been your most satisfying moment in business?

Hitting our 10 year mark this year has to be the most satisfying moment thus far for me. When I started the business in 2006, I was full of excitement, fear and optimism. Looking back, it’s been an epic ride of ups and downs, wins and losses. But it’s so rewarding to look at all the great people who call Magnetic home and to see the impact we’ve had on brands over the years.

Q. Tell me about a time you failed at a goal you needed to achieve

It happens all the time. You have to try things sometimes that go against traditional thinking, but that’s where you can find greatness. Example, we started a music studio in 2010 and it just flopped. The idea was there, but we were looking the wrong direction so we pivoted toward a production studio to support our content creation and it’s been a mainstay in our business since then.

Q. What are some of the characteristics of people that have been successful at your company?

Collaborative, brave, seekers, creative-thinkers, disruptive, team players, genuine.

Q. If your company were a Hogwarts house, which one would it be and why?

The sorting hat would definitely put us in Gryffindor, no doubt – the values align with who we are the most… courage, bravery & determination.

Q. Who do you respect the most, and why?

I’m a huge fan of Seth Godin. He’s got such brilliant perspective on marketing that continues to shape and business as we know it. I constantly go back to his books and re-read them again especially the Purple Cow, it’s what kickstarted me into starting my business.

Q. Where do you see yourself and your business in 10 years? 

Looking ahead 10 years from now I see us continuing to expand across the globe – locally and globally. In ten years my hope would be we continue to expand our branding business to larger international clients and start an incubator that would house a variety of lifestyle and consumer product brands that we would own. I see myself taking on the role of CIO – Chief Inspiration Officer, where my primary role is to ideate and inspire the internal teams and clients in the pursuit developing meaningful brands.
