A lot of coworking spaces can brag about their amenities like flowing beer on-tap, game rooms, maybe even big screens for big sporting events. And yes, Cross Campus has all that too, but doesn't that all sound a bit male-focused? We thought so, too. So with our lades in mind, we've started to focus our attention on more amenities that make the women of CC feel more comfortable in their office. We teamed up with Santa Monica members, Tampon Tribe to provide free, organic, body-loving feminine products to our members. We are so proud to offer their amazing products to our members, and are thrilled to share their story with you.
Q. In one sentence, describe who your company is and what you do.
A. Tampon Tribe provides organic, affordable, body-loving and earth-friendly feminine hygiene products delivered monthly to your door.
Q. What is the problem you're solving?
A. Women always run out of tampons and pads – always. Now you don’t even have to think about it – Tampon Tribe arrives monthly, just in time, to your door – and we’re affordable, so we’re providing access to organic feminine hygiene to all women. We’re also stopping the huge amount of waste generated by plastic tampon applicators each year – did you know approx. 20 billion plastic applicators are used in North America every year?! And they all end up in landfill or our oceans – we are completely plastic free – Yay!
Q. What brought your company to Los Angeles, and what do you like about the startup ecosystem here?
A. Los Angeles and especially Santa Monica has such a great environment for startups to thrive – everyone I know has a side-hustle of some sort! It’s such a diverse and interesting place and there is always something new happening – we love it.
Q. How has being a part of the Cross Campus community helped you or your business grow?
A. It’s so awesome to be surrounded by so many people chasing their dreams. Every time I walk into Cross Campus I know that I am in the right place – it’s like a calm descends and you can just get to work. It’s also great to chat with people going through similar challenges and know that when you’re up at 3am solving a problem, they probably are too!
Q. What has been your most satisfying moment in business?
A. To me it happens each time we receive an email or letter from a customer who loves what we do – it makes all of the late nights and long hours worthwhile. It was also pretty awesome to be listed as the #2 subscription box by BuzzFeed when we hadn’t even launched yet! Felt amazing!!
Q. What are some of the characteristics of people that have been successful at your company?
A. Those who think outside the box – or better yet – create a new shape to replace the box. We truly value people with a broad vision and who are willing to roll up their sleeves and get amongst it. Everyone is all-in at Tampon Tribe, and while we all have roles and specialties, it is a true team effort everyday.
Q. If your company were a Hogwarts house, which one would it be and why?
A. We would be Hufflepuff! They are on it when it comes to herbology, health and nature. They have hard work and dedication at their core and are welcoming, thoughtful and environmentally aware.
Q. Who do you respect the most, and why?
A. Dr. Jane Goodall, who acts from her heart, mind and soul and has transformed the way young people touch the environment. Also Michelle Obama – such a strong role model. In business, it is Elon Musk, for his vision and dedication to changing the world. Richard Branson also gets a shout out for being a pioneer and going against the grain.
Q. Where do you see yourself and your business in 10 years?
A. In 10 years our mission is to have made a dramatic impact on the use of plastics, synthetics, toxins, dyes, chlorines and chemicals in feminine hygiene. We will have expanded into new markets, created new product lines, built the company to a great standard and have our philanthropic divisions thrive!
